Taiwan Church News 3050 Edition August 9~15, 2010 Youth band kicks off street evangelism project in least Christian township Reported by Chen Wei-chien Written by Lydia Ma A small band of young adults assembled in front of a McDonald’s in Yuanlin Township to perform worship songs on the afternoon of August 8, 2010 – a day coinciding with Father’s Day in Taiwan and the first anniversary since Typhoon Morakot. Not only was this team from Yuanlin Presbyterian Church eager to tell people about God’s love through their music, they felt compelled to announce it in the township with the smallest percentage of Christians in Taiwan. This event sponsored by Hosanna Band from Yuanlin Presbyterian Church lasted about 2 hours and captured the attention of townspeople who gathered in a circle to watch performances. A short message from He-Ping Presbyterian Church’s pastor, Rev. Chang Wen-ming, was part of the presentation. Rev. Chang reported that Hosanna Band had about 10 members, most of them from his church. The average age of band members was 30. It’d been serving and performing during He-Ping Church’s Sunday services in the past few months. This community outreach project was one of the many events planned for the church’s 52nd anniversary celebrations this year. While planning for this event and making arrangements, Chang discovered that the owner of a McDonald’s near where they’d be performing happened to be a Christian. In the end, not only did the owner welcome them to perform, but also treated church staff to a free drink. Chang reflected afterward that God had everything planned out from the very beginning. This McDonald’s is located in the busiest and most bustling area of Yuanlin. A lot of people heard the songs these youths were performing and the blessings and messages they wanted to convey. This experience turned out to be very encouraging for all band members and their pastor expressed his hope that the band would hold similar events again to win villagers to Christ. ******************** Taiwan Church News is published weekly in Taiwan's local languages.
