"Mattie knew that being a peacemaker is not a job; it's a way of
being." -
Jeni Stepanek, carrying out her son's legacy for peace.

Stepanek continues son's legacy of peace

ROCKVILLE, Md. (UMNS) - In divisive times, Jeni Stepanek is
conducting her
own quiet crusade for peace. She does it to carry out the legacy
of her son,
Mattie, the young peace activist, New York Times bestselling
author and poet
who died in June 2004, just before turning 14, from complications
of a rare
and progressive neuromuscular disease. His mother has the same
disease.

University of
California, Berkeley, just opened its residence hall this fall and
the
University of Kentucky has had a Christian residence hall since
1986.

UMCOR help means successful chili crops

LAMBEUGAK, Indonesia (UMNS) - Farmers in the village of
Lambeugak in
Indonesia, supported by the United Methodist Committee on Relief,
have begun
to harvest a second round of chili crops for sale in local
markets, part of
a successful income-generation project. During the first harvest,
the
farmers made a significant profit and repaid 50 percent of the
value of the
seed packets they had received from UMCOR to a community
development fund,
which was used to buy more seeds for the second planting. [18]To
