âPeople matter to God; therefore, they matter to us. If we can
faithfully
follow Jesusâ example, the guests at our church will experience
forgiveness,
acceptance and love. They will know they are valued.â --The Rev.
Shelia
Fiorella, founding pastor of New Day United Methodist Church.

Mission initiative launches with focus on Haiti

NEW YORK (UMNS)âEach day, visitors to the website [14]10-Fold.org
will get
to see United Methodist mission programs around the world. The
website uses
current technology, including Skype, streaming videos, online
chats and
downloadable podcasts. In addition, people can help just by
clicking on the
link of a particular project. For each click from Oct. 10 to Oct.
19,
various church groups will donate one dollar to the selected
project, up to
$10,000. Organizers hope to get 10,000 advocates each day to raise
a total
of $100,000. The first focus in is Haiti.

Church women focus on domestic violence

STAMFORD, Conn. (UMNS) â Survivors of domestic violence should not
have to
choose between their faith and being safe. Such a dilemma can
occur, says
the Rev. Aleese Moore-Orbih, if their churches tell them to stay
âin a
situation where it is possible for them to lose their lives.â
During the
Oct. 8-11 meeting of the Womenâs Division, United Methodist Board
of Global
Ministries, she counseled directors on how local congregations can
assist
abuse survivors. United Methodist Women is among the sponsors of
âI Believe
You: Faithsâ Response to Intimate Partner Violence,â which will
air on
   ABC-TV in January.

First impressions matter to church visitors

MANSFIELD, Texas (UMNS)âThe Rev. Shelia Fiorella, founding pastor
of New Day
United Methodist Church, says the people coming through the doors
of a
church have expectations as consumers. âCompetition for
experiences that
affirm the customerâs value is so intense in todayâs culture that
consumers
often base the quality of any business â or church â on the first
few
seconds of their experience,â she said in this commentary.
