"I soon realized that I wasn't alone. God was present that night." -
Heather
Hahn, UMNS reporter, on her experience with an apartment fire.

Finding God amid fire's ashes

ANTIOCH, Tenn. (UMNS) - In a commentary, UMNS reporter Heather Hahn
discusses the terrifying ordeal of being roused from sleep by a
fire at her
apartment building, watching the flames with her neighbors and
discovering
the presence of God in the fire's aftermath.

"Mythbusters" focuses on immigration reform

NEW YORK (UMNS) - To respond to the myths and misinformation on
immigration
reform, Church World Service and Sojourners are presenting a
joint
"Mythbusters" blog series from Oct. 18-21. In the series opener,
"Myths and
Facts about Immigration Economics," Blogger Andrew Simpson tackled
the
misconception that immigrants take American jobs and drive down
wages of
American workers. Follow the series [17]here and [18]here.

October is clergy appreciation month

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (UMNS) - Want to show your pastor some
appreciation?
October is the perfect time to do it. Under His Wing Ministries
Inc., a
nonprofit, nondenominational group in Williamsport, Pa.,
established October
as Clergy Appreciation Month in 1992. Ideas for honoring United
Methodism's
more than 45,000 clergy range from praying for them, being alert
to signs of
fatigue or distress to raking leaves or providing childcare for
them. For
   more suggestions, go to [19]http://www.pastor-appreciation.net/

Correction to "Voice of faith crucial to young gays"

Correction: Gary Brewton was wrongly identified as pastor of
Bering Memorial
United Methodist Church. He is a member of the church. The Rev. J.
Ernest
Turney is the pastor. [21]The corrected story is here.
