âIf I (had) stayed in that despair and not come out of hiding, I
would have
missed seeing other people and really putting myself in their
place.â
âDeanna Favre, on overcoming self-focus during breast cancer
recovery and
                          the loss of her brother.

Favre, Stanford ask: âIn crisis or in Christ?â

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS)âWhat happens when lifeâs everyday
struggles develop
into habitual hassles? What happens when we get âstuckâ in our
suffering?
Thatâs what co-authors Deanna Favre and the Rev. Shane Stanford
call living
a âchronic life.â Favre, a breast cancer survivor, and Stanford,
who is
HIV-positive, discuss their new book, âThe CURE for the Chronic
Life:
Overcoming the Hopelessness That Holds You Back,â in a UMC.org
interview.

Association of Communicators presented 10 awards of excellence and
53
certificates of merit Oct. 21 and named a âCommunicator of the

Womanâs sermons on CD inspire truckers

WOODLAWN, Va. (UMNS)âFour years ago, Wilma Foreman felt a strong
call to be
a friendly female voice sharing the Good News with lonely
truckers. Today,
she has a small network of prayer partners, financial and music
contributors, and truck-driving delivery people who have helped
her get 10
different messages spread all over the country into 2,500 CDs,
according to
The Call, the newspaper of the Holston Annual (regional)
Conference.

Pastorâs 24 project follows clergy âround the clock

CHECOTAH, Okla. (UMNS)âThe Rev. Jeremy Smith wants people to know
pastors
donât just work on Sundays and their duties involve more than
spiritual
matters. To help people get a better sense of a clergyperson's
typical day,
Smith, associate pastor at First United Methodist Church in
Checotah, Okla.,
suggests ministers steal an idea from the Greater Manchester
Police Force in
   the United Kingdom. From 5 a.m. Oct. 14 to 5 a.m. Oct. 15, the
Manchester
police dealt with 3,205 incidents and posted details about every
one on
Twitter. The tweets helped the public get a better sense of the
sort of
problems with which police deal. With that in mind, Smith has
designated
Oct. 27 for pastors to give a 24-hour real-time accounting of
their day in
tweets using the hashtag #pastors24. So far, at least 12 clergy
have signed
up for the Pastor's 24 project. [19]More details are available at
Smith's
   blog.
