"She would bring a trailer full of used clothing and
other items to help out the people on a regular basis."
              - Jodi Cataldo, speaking about a Swedish pastor
recognized for her work in Lithuania.

UMTV: Sermons for Truckers

WOODLAWN, Va. (UMNS) - Wilma Foreman was raised in a conservative
small town
and grew up understanding that women weren't expected to speak out
much. But
three years ago, Foreman began to speak out about her religious
faith. Now
her voice reaches every corner of the country, one truck driver at
a time.

set of resources to help congregations mark the first anniversary
of relief
and recovery work in Haiti following the Jan. 12, 2010,
earthquake.

Angolan church supports domestic violence law

LUANDA, Angola (UMNS) - United Methodists in Angola will march on
Jan. 8 in
support of a new law against domestic violence that received
general
approval in December by that West African country's national
assembly,
according to a local press report. Under the banner, "United
Methodist
Church says no to every type of violence," the march - led by
Bishop Gaspar
João Domingos - will start in front of the United Methodist
Church Centre
of Luanda and end at the Family and Women Promotion Ministry
building.

Swedish pastor receives 'Golden Heart'

KAUNAS, Lithuania (UMNS) - Readers of Delfi, a Lithuanian Web
portal,
recently honored the Rev. Walla Carlson of Sweden with the
"People's Golden
Heart" award. Carlson, a United Methodist pastor with Lithuanian
roots, has
volunteered in Lithuania for many years, according to Jodi
Cataldo, a former
United Methodist Board of Global Ministries missionary to the
north-central
European country. "She would bring a trailer full of used clothing
and other
items to help out the people on a regular basis," Cataldo said.

"She even got the Swedish church to wrap numerous gifts of
clothing and toys
at Christmastime for distribution," Cataldo continued. "In
addition, she
does much around drug and alcohol education, youth, camping,
United
Methodist Women and evangelization. This award (honors) people who
dedicate
much time voluntarily for good works."

The Lithuania-based "competition," Cataldo said, honors
volunteers
(individuals, congregations, organizations) who generally are not
well known
and often not recognized. Carlson garnered more than 70 percent of
the vote.
