After shootings, Arizona churches pray

   TUSCON, Ariz. (UMNS) â Responding to the Jan. 8 shootings, United 
Methodists
   around the world are joining in prayer for the six killed and more 
than a
   dozen wounded. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the apparent target, 
remains in
   critical condition.

Interpreter: Fighting modern-day slavery

   WASHINGTON (UMNS) â The U. S. State Department's [21]"2010 
Trafficking in
   Persons Report" says some 12.3 million adults and children are in 
forced
   labor, bonded labor and forced prostitution around the world, 
including
   17,000  in  the  U.S.  Fifty-six percent globally are women and 
girls.
   Interpreter  Magazine reports how United Methodists are fighting 
human
   trafficking.

UMW offers resources on human trafficking

   NEW YORK (UMNS) â In recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness 
Day on Jan.
   11, the [23]United Methodist Women homepage is featuring an 
interactive,
   informational  slideshow  about  the issue. Also included are 
links to
   downloadable material for the organizationâs [24]"Intercept the 
Traffickers"
   campaign to end trafficking at the upcoming Super Bowl; a Bible 
study on
   human trafficking; a PowerPoint presentation; action alerts and a 
human
   trafficking fact sheet.

   On Twitter, UMW is targeting [25]a list of NFL playoff related 
members of
   Twitter in an effort to get them to join the campaign by 
retweeting its
   information.

Bishop Wills to retire Sept. 1

   NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) â Bishop Richard J. Wills, whose area 
includes the
   Memphis and Tennessee Annual (regional) Conferences, plans to 
retire Sept.
   1, 2011. He is retiring under provisions of the 2008 Book of 
Discipline, the
   United Methodist law book, which says a bishop may seek 
âretirement for
   health reasons.â
