âLet us be agents of hope by committing to work for justice, that
peace,
Godâs own peace, may come upon us. Our children expect no less of
us.â â
Phoenix Area Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño

Tucson services call all to be âagents of hopeâ

TUCSON, Ariz. (UMNS) â Children can lead adults to become agents
of hope,
Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño told those who had gathered to remember
the dead
and pray for the living. The Jan. 11 vigil was among many
interfaith
gatherings held in response to a Jan. 8 shooting rampage, which
left six
dead and more than a dozen wounded. President Barack Obama also
sounded a
note of hope during a memorial service.

Camp offers shelter for displaced Haitians

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (UMNS) â An hourâs drive separates the quiet
refuge of
Camp Corail â among Haitiâs largest tent cities â from the clutter
and
clatter of the dusty, garbage-strewn streets of the capital city.
Nine
pastel green and blue schoolrooms built by the United Methodist
Committee on
Reliefâs nongovernmental organization âone of several agencies
providing
day-to-day essential services â stand out in the sea of white.

Haitians find hope, show faith through disaster

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (UMNS) â Leonard Jeangilles was worried that
a mission
team he was helping would be late returning to the Methodist Guest
House for
dinner. It was Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, a day Jeangilles and
thousands of
Haitians will never forget. Living through such an experience
changes
people, but it can also strengthen their faith. Here are some of
their
   stories.
