âPeople are like you and I the world over, we have the same aspirations and
the same thoughts. People are pretty much the same the world over.â â
                        Kenneth Kruger, Rogers, Ark.

British Methodists transcribing Bible by hand

MANCHESTER, England (UMNS) -- In an age when a hand-written letter is an
increasingly scarce commodity, British Methodists have pledged to
transcribe
all 66 books of the Bible by hand during the first five months of this
year.
The âWritten by Hand, Taken to Heartâ national initiative is part of the
denominationâs recognition of the 400th anniversary of the publication of
the King James Bible. The hope is that people of all ages who are
unfamiliar
with the Bible, as well as those who know it well, will encounter the
Bibleâs stories, poetry and teachings in a new way.

BBC puts focus on King James Bible

MANCHESTER, England (UMNS) â Four hundred years later, the King James
Bible
still has resonance in everyday life. That is why the anniversary
celebration of its publication warrants extensive coverage, says
Christine
Morgan, Methodist lay preacher and head of radio for the BBCâs Religion
and
Ethics Department. The UKâs major publicly funded broadcaster has devoted
significant broadcast resources and air time to programming about the
King
   James Bible.

King James Bible: How it changed the way we speak

The impact of the King James Bible, first published in 1611, is still
being
felt in the way we speak and write. No other book, or indeed any piece of
culture, seems to have influenced the English language as much as the
King
James Bible. Its turns of phrase have permeated the everyday language of
English speakers, whether or not they've ever opened a copy. Linguist
David
Crystal counts 257 phrases from the King James Bible in contemporary
English
   idiom.

Man begins mission work at age 90

ROGERS, Ark. (UMNS) â At a time in life when many may choose to take
things
easy, Kenneth Kruger was up for a new challenge: going on an
international
mission trip. In fact, since turning 90, the member of Central United
Methodist Church has taken three such tripsâto Chile, Belize and Costa
Rica,
along with an excursion to Israel. âI like to see whatâs over the next
   hill,â Kruger said.
