33 retired bishops urge end to gay clergy ban

   NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - Thirty-three retired United Methodist bishops 
have
   released a statement calling on The United Methodist Church to eliminate 
its
   ban on homosexual clergy. However, the denomination's current policy on
   ordination has many supporters in both church and lay leadership.

Pensions board sets March 4 public forum

   FORT WORTH, Texas (UMNS) - The United Methodist Board of Pension and 
Health
   Benefits is holding a public forum at 11:45 a.m. March 4 at the 
Worthington
   Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel. The session provides an opportunity for 
church
   members  to make a short presentation to the board of directors. Those
   wishing to place their names and topics on the agenda should contact

Global AIDS Fund launches "20/20" campaign

   NEW YORK (UMNS) - The United Methodist Global AIDS Fund has launched a 
new
   campaign: "[20]20/20: Visioning an AIDS-Free World."  A $20 donation can
   stop the transmission of HIV from a mother to child; teach young people 
and
   adults how to prevent HIV; be used for church workshops to fight stigma 
and
   discrimination or feed an HIV-positive person for a month or more, 
enabling
   them to take their medicine and lead productive lives.

   Established in 2004, The United Methodist Global AIDS Fund has supported 
175
   Christ-centered, church-oriented programs in 37 countries. The fund 
supports
   education, prevention, care and treatment programs for people living with
   HIV/AIDS.


Advocacy planned for criminal justice reform

   WASHINGTON (UMNS) - The United Methodist Board of Church and Society is
   asking church members to educate themselves about the realities of mass
   incarceration and advocate for improvements to the U.S. criminal justice
   system by observing the [21]National Day of Prayer for Criminal Justice
   Reform on Feb. 20 and the [22]Juvenile Justice Week of Faith & Healing 
from
   March 7 to 13. Congregations also are invited to endorse the [23]Criminal
   Justice Reform Faith Letter.


'Day 1' program to feature Atlanta pastor

   ATLANTA (UMNS) - The Rev. G. Gil Watson, senior pastor of Northside 
United
   Methodist  Church in Atlanta, is the featured preacher Feb. 27 on "Day
   1," [24]the nationally syndicated radio program also accessible here. The
   program includes a sermon by Watson along with interviews conducted by
   producer and host Peter Wallace.

   Watson is known as a storyteller and frequently presents monologues as 
such
   historical characters as Joel Chandler Harris, creator of the "Uncle 
Remus"
   tales,  and  John Wesley, founder of Methodism. In his "Day 1" sermon,
   entitled "Get Your Thinking Right!" he focuses on Jesus' teaching about
   worry (Matthew 6:25-34).


Children's Ministry Forum planned

   SAN ANTONIO (UMNS) - The United Methodist Board of Discipleship will 
offer
   its 2011 Children's Ministry Forum on Feb. 22-24 at Coker United 
Methodist
   Church  in  San  Antonio.  The forum offers learning opportunities for
   children's  ministry  leaders  in congregation with more 250 people in
