"This is a historical moment for the South Sudanese and all Sudanese. It's a
dream come true for all of us." â Victor Chol, a United Methodist who was
one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan."

United Methodists cheer Southern Sudan vote

YEI, Sudan (UMNS) â When the overwhelming vote for independence in Southern

U.S. Rural Church Realities

DURHAM, N.C. (UMTV) â When a church exists in an area where there are fewer
than 200 people per square mile, it's considered rural. There are about
20,000 United Methodist rural congregations in the U.S.--more than 60
percent of the denomination in the U.S. Despite these significant numbers, a
2010 survey revealed that rural church members often feel unheard and
   misunderstood.

Agency sets church's 2011 legislative priorities

WASHINGTON (UMNS) â The United Methodist Board of Church and Society has set
its 2011 legislative priorities for the 112th U.S. Congress. The priorities
support social-justice stances approved by The United Methodist Church's
highest policy-making body, General Conference. The priorities are based on
the denomination's Social Principles and its Book of Resolutions. They also
are aligned with focus areas of the denomination approved by General
Conference, which meets every four years.
