3077 Edition February 14-20, 2011 Church Ministry News Author combines storytelling and craftsmanship to weave stories about God Reported by Chiou Kuo-rong Written by Lydia Ma Renowned children’s book writer Liu Ching-yan is famous for his children’s picture books, but rumor has it that he’s also turned into a necklace designer recently. Apparently, what first began as a gift idea later turned into a partnership with Cosmic Light Christian publication. Liu first began designing crosses because of his passion for writing children’s books. He said behind every cross design is a story waiting to be told and insists storytelling shouldn’t be limited to words on a page. With this conviction, he has since continued on his quest to find different means to tell stories to children. So far, he has designed 5 styles of crosses – 5 loaves & 2 fish, Fishers of Men, Jesus Bless, Rose of Sharon, and Vine & Branches. Each style is based on a Bible story. According to Cosmic Light, the necklace is not only handmade, but also made of 925 pure silver. Guessing that many buyers will wonder what inspired such a design, Liu has already included inside each box a glossy piece of paper detailing the Bible story behind a particular cross design. He hopes that each cross and its story will help further the gospel message. ******************** Taiwan Church News is published weekly in Taiwan's local languages.
