The ground kept moving, and the telephone lines were swaying, so we were afraid. Bicycles nearby fell over. By this time, everyone had come out of the buildings to wait in the street. I told my members to keep praying, and I did the same." - The Rev. Claudia Genung Yamamoto, a United Methodist missionary in Japan. United Methodists respond to Japan quake TOKYO (UMNS) - The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries has nine missionaries in Japan along with a number of individual volunteers-in-mission, and the church is already responding to those in need after the earthquake and tsunami. Grace United Methodist Church in Austin is one such example. The agency also has created four bulletin covers, each with a historical photo and a litany on the back. The resources can be used at any time to honor women who have played significant roles in the church and in the world as champions for Jesus Christ. [19]Download free inserts here» Helping communities access clean water NEW YORK (UMNS) - Alice Koech, a native of Tengecha, Kenya, knows all too well the struggle to obtain water. As a child, she rose early in the morning to get water for her family before going to school. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is helping Alice and the other 20,000 residents assisted by the [20]Tengecha Community Water Project. United Methodist congregations can observe World Water Day on March 22 by sharing information about this project, [21]downloading the church bulletin and learning how UMCOR helps vulnerable communities throughout Africa gain [22]access to safe water.
