(UMNS) — United Methodists from the Dakotas Annual (regional) Conference have completed the first step in their flood fight: filling sandbags. Operations at a warehouse dubbed Sandbag Central wrapped up March 11 as volunteers put the finishing touches on about 2.5 million bags. The effort began on Valentine's Day. The National Weather Service is predicting a third straight year of major Red River flooding in the Fargo and Moorhead, Minn., area, prompting officials to begin making sandbags a month earlier than last year.
