In the case of Lambuth University, the graduates will go on, but their alma mater will not. [20]Read full story and post a comment» Christian leaders add voices to U.S. budget debate WASHINGTON (UMNS) –As Congress reconvenes today after a two-week recess, the U.S. national debt and 2012 budget will top the agenda. More than 50 Christian leaders have released a joint statement on behalf of those who could suffer the most under budget cuts. United Methodists signing the statement include Bishops Sharon Zimmerman Rader and Minerva Carcaño; the Rev. John McCullough, Church World Service; the Rev. Stephen Sidorak Jr., United Methodist Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns, and Jim Winkler, United Methodist Board of Church and Society. “As Christian leaders, we are committed to fiscal responsibility and shared sacrifice. We are also committed to resist budget cuts that undermine the lives, dignity, and rights of poor and vulnerable people,” the statement said. “Therefore, we join with others to form a Circle of Protection around programs that meet the essential needs of hungry and poor people at home and abroad.” [21]Read full story» Higher education officials to hold historic conference NASHVILLE, Tenn.
