“The real power of Change the World is that having all the events on one
weekend demonstrates the impact of what we can achieve together. Think what
could be accomplished if everyone spent an occasional weekend helping a
neighbor or volunteering our time.” — The Rev. Larry Hollon of United
   Methodist Communications.

Nets may save newborn’s life

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (UMNS) — Bintu Kamara has lost three of her seven
children to malaria. Now, she is armed with a new insecticide-treated bed
net hung by United Methodist volunteers who arrived at her home less than 10
hours after she delivered her seventh child. Kamara’s plight of losing her
children to malaria may have ended.

Blog: Serving others to change the world

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — This weekend, hundreds of United Methodist
churches will offer free health screenings, free bikes, free breakfasts and
free carwashes. Community gardens will be planted, homes will be repaired,
and money will be raised to build wells and fight malaria. In a blog post at
Huffington Post, the Rev. Larry Hollon — top executive at United Methodist
Communications — describes a number of ministries planned as part of Change
   the World.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — The 2011 State of the Church Report is now
available to be [21]downloaded. The report, titled “Called to act: Make
disciples, transform the world,” presents church data collected by the
General Council on Finance and Administration. It also offers a summary of

reorder the church. The report is put together by the Connectional Table in
collaboration with the Council of Bishops and the General Council on Finance
   and Administration.

‘The Daily Show’ features Virginia church

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (UMNS) — For opening its doors to its Muslim neighbors,
Aldersgate United Methodist Church was featured on “The Daily Show with Jon
Stewart” on Comedy Central on May 5. The comedy show’s John Oliver
interviewed the Rev. Dennis Perry and Naeem Baig of the Islamic Circle of
   North America.

“We were thrilled when we got the call asking if the mosque could use our
congregation for its prayers on Friday,” Perry told Oliver. “I am being
faithful to Jesus by welcoming the stranger into the community. … We are two
different faiths building relationships, talking together, working together
   for a common purpose.”
