"Just because you're bigger doesn't mean you're better. I know some lousy
big churches, and some great small churches. It's about the size of your
commitment and your heart and your faith in the Lord." - The Rev. Kirbyjon
Caldwell, pastor Windsor Village United Methodist Church, Houston.

Windsor Village's 'three-legged' ministry

HOUSTON, Texas - The Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell was appointed to Windsor Village
United Methodist Church in 1982. At that time, he led the church to build a
strong education ministry, a winsome worship service and programs for
   children and youth.

U.S. disasters leave 'whirlwind of need'

NEW YORK (UMNS) - Last month's outbreak of powerful tornadoes left a
whirlwind of need in its wake -- a twister that was quickly wrapped in a
flood and threatened with hurricanes. "In the 13 years I've worked in U.S.
disaster response, there never has been a series of emergencies as
widespread as what we're seeing this year," said the Rev. Tom Hazelwood, who
heads that office for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

In the past six weeks, UMCOR has disbursed nearly $200,000 in emergency
grants and dispatched staff to the North Carolina, North Alabama, Tennessee,
Memphis, Mississippi, and Holston annual conferences to help set up
emergency call centers and conduct trainings for early response teams and
   spiritual and emotional care teams.

Online conversations put faces on Change the World initiative

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - As United Methodists woke up on May 14 and started
preparing for Change the World weekend, United Methodist Communications was
online sharing that work with the world. The Rev. Neelley Hicks, special
projects manager for Rethink Church, interviewed a number of participants
throughout the day, including United Methodists in Japan, Ukraine, the
Philippines, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and across the United States.

Donation will allow Claremont School of Theology to train rabbis, imams

CLAREMONT, Calif. (UMNS) - Claremont School of Theology announced May 16 a
$50 million gift -- including a previous $10 million donation -- from Joan
and David Lincoln that will establish the new Claremont Lincoln University.
Mr. Lincoln, a United Methodist layperson, has been a trustee of the school
   since 2003.

Formerly called the "University Project," Claremont Lincoln University is a
degree-granting institution at the center of a new consortium of
professional graduate schools for religious education. The theological
school will continue to offer clerical education in the Christian tradition
and the affiliated schools will offer religious education in other
traditions, such as Judaism and Islam.
