“I don’t have a lot (of money) to give, but I can help provide a safe,
positive place for children to learn about Jesus.” –– Kelly Dyer, a Change
                           the World participant.

Change the World sows seeds, reaps blessings

WOODSTOCK, Ga. (UMNS) — United Methodists in 15 countries participated in
more than 2,000 projects related to Change the World, a weekend of simple
acts of kindness that led to changed lives. One event in Georgia even led
one single mother to her next possible church home.

Volunteers serve neighbors as waters rise

BATON ROUGE, La. (UMNS) — Despite the threat of flooding from a swollen
Mississippi River, members of more than 210 United Methodist churches in
Louisiana built houses and wheelchair ramps, hosted health fairs, held food
drives and assembled 1,500 cleaning buckets. These buckets will help in
areas where flooding is anticipated in the next two to four weeks.

LA event looks at diversity as key to church vitality

LOS ANGELES (UMNS) — More than 200 United Methodist leaders are gathering
here this week to discuss cross-cultural/cross-racial appointments as a key
to the church's future vitality. The “Facing the Future” event, sponsored by
the denomination’s Commission on Religion and Race and its Board of Higher
Education and Ministry, could spur the dismantling of “relational
roadblocks” to such appointments, said Bishop Marcus Matthews, the board’s
   president.

"Our church is struggling to keep pace,” explained Erin Hawkins, top
executive of the Religion and Race Commission. “We believe that
cross-racial/cross-cultural appointments present a unique and underutilized
opportunity for the church to engage in vital and relevant ministry across
all boundaries and could be a key to our revival as a global movement."

NBA’s Thunder storms into malaria fight

OKLAHOMA CITY (UMNS) — The Oklahoma City Thunder, still in the NBA playoffs,
already has scored big in the global fight against malaria. An April 8 game
netted $10,214 for Nothing But Nets, a campaign supported by The United
Methodist Church, United Nations Foundation and NBA Cares. Oklahoma Area
Bishop Robert Hayes Jr. also delivered a prayer before the game.
