"I always intended to give away most of the money. I haven't established a
relationship to the money I've won - it is totally abstract." - The Rev.
   Alfred Mignon, German quiz-show winner.

Pastor shocks by giving away prize money

OTTERFING, Germany (UMNS) -- The Rev. Alfred Mignon won a whopping $180,000
on the German equivalent of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" A media frenzy
followed his announcement that he would give away $160,000 to a good friend
   with financial problems.

Radiation threat slows Japan's recovery

TOKYO (UMNS) -- Two months after Japan's devastating earthquake, the "Class
of 2011" has started at the Asian Rural Institute, despite its damaged
campus, and Christians from Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan are forming a
consortium for relief efforts. Christians also are speaking out about
contamination from Japan's damaged nuclear plant.

Pastor leads march against violence

DAYTON, Ohio (UMNS) -- The Rev. Dave Hood, pastor of Fort McKinley United
Methodist Church, led a May 13 march against violence in Harrison Township.
The 100 participants from the church did not know the 14-year-old boy who
was shot last May 13, but they said the fact that a child could be assaulted
in this way is reason enough to take a stand. "All people are equally
valuable to God," Hood said, "but I believe God has a special place in his
   heart for children."

A funny thing happened on the way to the funeral...

MANCHESTER, England (UMNS) -- A conversation between the chaplaincy team at
Royal Bolton Hospital, which includes the Rev. Kathleen LaCamera, a United
Methodist pastor, and the hospital's palliative care consultant has resulted
in "Dying for a Laugh," a film in which six comedians joke and reflect on
the subject of death and dying. Among the comedians in the film is Jenny
   Éclair, pictured at right.
Now available online, the film was produced by LaCamera, also a filmmaker
and journalist, and her husband, former BBC religion TV producer Chris
Loughlin, as a way to "normalize" conversation about death in support of
   "Dying Matters Awareness Week."
