Award-winning 'StillSpeaking Magazine' highlights healing
Written by Jeff Woodard May 24, 2011
Well received by subscribers and highly praised by peers, "StillSpeaking Magazine" published its third edition with a healing touch. The Spring/Summer 2011 edition of the award-winning magazine, set for distribution throughout the end of May, includes features on missionary work in India, a miracle-making thrift shop and a photo essay on "The Healing of the Nations." 'Stillspeaking' was named "Best Magazine" on April 2 at the Religious Communicators Council (RCC) DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards presentation in Little Rock, Ark. "The covers of this magazine are so striking, they would draw attention from across the room," judges said. " 'StillSpeaking Magazine' features a compelling Christian voice. It is a great concept and very inviting."
"Being named best magazine by the Religion Communicators Council is a testament to the vision of a dedicated staff who believed that a new print piece that made a clear, compelling case for the distinctive values and voice of the UCC could thrive, if it stayed true to that high aim," said the Rev. J. Bennett Guess, 'StillSpeaking' publisher. "Thanks to the dedication of editor Gregg Brekke and many others, 'StillSpeaking Magazine' is more than a good read; it's an inspiring religious experience, with each turn of the pa ge."
An interfaith association of religion communicators, the RCC was established in 1929 and is the oldest group of religion communicators in America. The awards ? presented to active RCC members who demonstrate excellence in religious communications and public relations ? are named in honor of the late Victor DeRose and the late Paul M. Hinkhouse, leading lithographers in New York City and longtime RCC friends. Both 2010 editions of "StillSpeaking Magazine" garnered additional RCC awards for their respective photo essays ? the Spring/Summer edition for its "Belonging" theme and the Fall/Winter "Blessing" issue. In addition, "StillSpeaking" received four honors April 27-29 at the "Best of the Christian Press" competition sponsored by the Associated Church Press (ACP) the oldest and largest religious press association in North America. The 95-year-old ACP presented the awards during its annual convention, meeting with the Canadian Church Press in Chicago. ACP member publications' and individual members' work done in 2010 were eligible for the awards. A panel of independent judges chose winners from more than 1,000 entries in 60 categories. Addressing the UCC's communications transitions over the past two years, Brekke recalled the 25-year history of the "United Church News" newspaper that was replaced by a web-only resource 18 months ago. "I'd like to thank all those who discerned and believed with us," said Brekke. "It took a leap of faith to launch this new magazine." "StillSpeaking Magazine" is published in the spring and fall annually. Subscriptions are available online at <<http://www.ucc.org/magazine>ucc.org/magazine> or by calling 1-800-537-339 4.
