(UMNS) — District superintendents and directors of connectional ministries — working collaboratively with church pastors and lay leaders — can lead the adaptive change necessary for The United Methodist Church to have a future with hope, the Rev. Jorge Acevedo told 81 new district superintendents and seven directors of connectional ministries attending a training event this week. Acevedo is the lead pastor of Grace Church, a multi-site United Methodist congregation at Cape Coral, Fort Myers Shores and Fort Myers Central campuses in Florida. He also was a member of the Call to Action Steering Team. [19]Read more» United Methodist poverty summit set CAMP HILL, Pa. (UMNS) — Christian social activist Shane Claiborne will be the featured presenter at Anti-Poverty Summit II Oct. 9-10 at Camp Hill United Methodist Church. Sponsored by United Methodist Advocacy in Pennsylvania, the summit will focus on giving local churches and community organizations tools they need to effectively work with people living in poverty.
