"The stories that we are hearing are about neighbors helping neighbors (and)
churches reaching out as meal sites and distribution sites for clothing,
water, diapers and food." - The Rev. Brigid Farrell, Vermont district
   superintendent.

Inland flooding prolongs misery of Irene

RUTLAND, Vt. (UMNS) - When the Rev. Deborah Estey took "muck out" training
last spring through the United Methodist Committee on Relief, she didn't

Bishop calls for building bridges on 9/11

WASHINGTON (UMNS) - Bishop Larry M. Goodpaster, president of the Council of
Bishops, urges United Methodist churches to commemorate the 10th anniversary
of the Sept. 11 attacks with services of prayer and interfaith connection.
"Let us build bridges of trust and reconciliation through these services by
inviting and encouraging people of all faiths to come together for prayer,"
he said in a statement. "Let us work for personal and social holiness by
practicing John Wesley's General Rules for the people called Methodist,
especially to do no harm and to do good." Goodpaster, who also leads the
Western North Carolina Annual (regional) Conference, reminds church members
that "the goodness and mercy of God can overcome even the most tragic events
   and experiences in this world."

gives an overview of the [21]2011 Global Involvement Survey, commissioned by
