3128 Edition February 6-12, 2012 Church Ministry News Local church equips youths for evangelism through filmmaking seminar Reported by Lin Yi-ying Written by Lydia Ma Since so many churches in Taiwan have been actively training their youths in sharing the gospel via multimedia and film, Taichung Presbytery’s Chung-Lun Church Youth Zone decided to enlist the help of Taiwan Theological College and Seminary (TTCS) in equipping its youths in this discipline. A camp on evangelistic filmmaking was held from January 31 to February 4, 2012 with the help of Hong Ying-chuan, a TTCS seminarian currently doing an internship at the church, and 21 youths attended the camp. The church invited 2 renowned film directors as guest speakers and New Eyes Television (NETV) producer Chen Yi-pin was also invited to teach about screenwriting. “This is the first time that a local PCT church has organized a camp on filmmaking,” said Hong. He added that a similar camp was held in 2011 but participants then were already mass-media students or professionals, not church youths. In contrast, the purpose of this camp is to equip church youths who haven’t had any prior experience. During the camp, participants were divided into two groups for the purpose of friendly competition and producing two films by the end of the camp. One film’s storyline revolved around two brothers who fell in love with the same woman and turned against each other before reconciling. The other film’s plot revolved around a car accident where both parties learned to let go of their anger, forgive, and reconcile. Both films were produced in 2 days and they are currently being edited. They are slated to be released on Youtube, with subtitles, before the end of March 2012. ******************** Taiwan Church News is published weekly in Taiwan's local languages.
