    Assembly thanked by Charlotte Presbytery 
 
CHARLOTTE--Thank you!!!  Over 4,000 books have been collected thanks to the 
generosity of those attending the 210th General Assembly (1998).  The 38 
programs that have been recommended to receive these books serve children 
in Charlotte and surrounding areas. 
    A description of some of these programs follows. 
    A Child's Place, Charlotte, N.C. - a program serving homeless children 
and their families that was housed during its first three years in First 
Presbyterian Church, Charlotte. 
    Alexander Children's Home, Charlotte, N.C. - a program serving children 
with special emotional needs that was first established by Presbyterians in 
the area as an orphanage in the early part of the century. 
    Arosa House, Charlotte, N.C. - a program providing emergency housing 
for children supported by Covenant Presbyterian Church, Charlotte. 
    C.A.R.E. Bears, Spencer, N.C. - a preschool program for mothers and 
children supported by Kirk of Kildare Presbyterian, Spencer, N.C. 
    Clanton Presbyterian STAR program, Charlotte, N.C. - a tutorial program 
for elementary children. 
    Fishertown Learning Center, Concord, N.C. - a tutorial and support 
program for preschool, elementary and youth that is in its second year.  It 
was begun as a ministry of Bethpage Presbyterian, Kannapolis, N.C. 
    Lakewood Preschool, Charlotte, N.C. - a preschool program built in a 
troubled neighborhood by Presbyterian churches in cooperation with Habitat 
for Humanity. 
    The Listening Center, Lancaster, S.C. - a program for new mothers and 
infants and preschoolers. 
    Seigle Avenue Preschool Mother-Read, Charlotte, N.C. - a preschool 
program for mothers and their children that is a ministry of Seigle Avenue 
Presbyterian, Charlotte, N.C. 
    Thompson Children's Home, Clinton, S.C. - program for special needs 
children supported by the Presbytery of Charlotte. 
    Tuesday Child, Rock Hill, S.C. - a program tutoring elementary children 
sponsored by the Presbyterian Campus Ministry at Winthrop College, Rock 
Hill, S.C.
