GENEVA, 23 June 1998 (lwi) - Though the "Joint Declaration on the Doctrine
of Justification" was clearly the major ecumenical issue before the
Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Council, other developments were also dealt
with at its meeting here. Among the items approved by the council were:

+ that the international Anglican-Lutheran dialogue be resumed "as soon
as it seems expedient."

+ that the positive development of the Lutheran-Orthodox dialogue "be
noted with satisfaction" and that USD 5,000 be given in support of the
Lutheran-Orthodox Documentation Center in Erlangen, Germany.

+ that the LWF General Secretary report to next year's council meeting
on the status and future development of international Lutheran-Reformed
relations.

+ that the final report from the Lutheran-Seventh-day Adventist
conversations be published and sent to member churches for study and
response.

+ that the LWF General Secretary "find ways to encourage member
churches to inform the LWF about their ecumenical dialogues and relations."
