The Global Principles document released June 26 by the Interfaith Center
on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) has been five years in the making.
The document is a collaborative effort of the ICCR, the Ecumenical
Council for Corporate Responsibility of the United Kingdom, and the
Taskforce on the Churches and Corporate Responsibility in Canada.
The first version was published in 1995 and distributed for comment to
corporations and labor, religious, environmental and human rights groups
around the world. The new version incorporates those comments as well as
the experiences of the sponsoring groups in using the document with
corporations.
As a resource, the Global Principles document works in two ways: to help
corporations strengthen and expand their own codes of conduct and to
assist other organizations in their efforts to change corporate
policies, programs and practices.
The document is being published in English, German, French and Spanish.
It includes appendices with 24 national and international codes and
declarations on topics ranging from human rights to environmental
concerns. To obtain the 80-page text, contact the Rev. David Schilling
by calling (212) 870-2928 or by e-mail at david@iccr.org.
