Taiwan Church News 3055 Edition September 13~19, 2010 Mackay Memorial Hospital celebrates 130th anniversary Reported by Lin Yi-ying Written by Lydia Ma Photo by Lin Yi-ying About 300 management-level employees from Mackay Memorial Hospital (MMH) in Taiwan gathered in Tamsui on September 11, 2010 to pay tribute to Dr. George Leslie Mackay and celebrate the 130th anniversary of MMH. They had come from all 4 MMH branches across Taiwan. MMH currently has branches in Taipei, Tamsui, Hsinchu, and Taitung. Led by Tamsui Mayor Tsai Yeh-wei who is also a Christian, the crowd retraced Mackay’s steps starting from the shores of Tamsui River, the very spot where he first set foot in Taiwan, and sang hymns and prayed as they went along. The crowd stopped by Tamsui Presbyterian Church, followed by Tamkang High School to visit Mackay’s graveside to lay flowers, before coming to their final destination at Aletheia University where they toured Mackay’s old living quarters, the old Oxford College founded by Mackay in 1872, and concluded this special day with a thanksgiving service followed by a banquet. MMH CEO Chuang Kun-ming especially thanked MMH staff during his special address, commending them for their tireless efforts in ensuring that Mackay’s legacy and PCT’s motto – “burning yet not consumed” – continued to live on in contemporary Taiwanese society. ******************** Taiwan Church News is published weekly in Taiwan's local languages.
