LGBT Coalition names Lang interim executive director
Written by Staff Reports September 16, 2010
The board of the UCC Coalition for LGBT Concerns voted Sept. 13 to approve the appointment of veteran UCC communications professional Andrew G. Lang as interim executive director. "The board of directors is delighted and honored to have Andy join us in the Coalition's ministry of extravagant welcome," said the Rev. Barbara Mason Rathbun, board moderator. "His expertise, experience and enthusiasm for the United Church of Christ and for our work will serve us well. We look forward to his leadership and his help in sharing the good news of our Stillspeaking God." Lang has worked in the UCC's national setting for 16 years as a reporter, web manager and most recently as minister for web community. He also has served as a public-relations specialist for non-profit organizations and congressional offices in Washington, D.C. "I'm deeply honored that during this critical time of transition, I'll be in a position to help the Coalition strengthen and deepen its ministries of advocacy and inclusion," said Lang. The Coalition was organized in 1972 to advocate for the inclusion of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in the UCC. The group later broadened its focus to include the church's growing transgender community. It provides support and sanctuary for the UCC's LGBT members along with their families and friends, and promotes the UCC's values of inclusion and justice for all people. The Coalition, an officially recognized group in the UCC, is represented in the church's governing bodies. For more information, visit the Coalition's web site at <ucccoalition.org>.
