The goals are a set of eight targets designed to reduce by half poverty, hu nger, maternal and child deaths, disease, inadequate shelter, gender inequa lity and environmental degradation. The world's leaders agreed in 2000 to a chieve the goals by 2015. Bennison, via a statement e-mailed to Episcopal News Service by his publici st, said that he hoped "the suffering I have endured during the past three years has strengthened me and will enable me to work for reconciliation wit hin the diocese."
