UCC Media Justice Update Stopping Media Concentration
UCC OC Inc. has been fighting media concentration on many fronts for many years. One of the most important fights is to ensure the FCC's media ownership rules remain relevant and enforceable. We have faced many challenges. During the Bush Administration both Chairmen Powell and Martin sought to allow more media concentration. In 2003, UCC OC Inc. and its allies were successful in persuading the Third Circuit to put a stop to the FCC's rules. But delays since then has caused problems. Kevin Martin tried to relax the rules in 2007 and the FCC has not acted to revise the rules since then. Tired of waiting the Third Circuit recently decided to eliminate its stay and allow the most recent set of bad rules to go into effect. This month, UCC OC Inc.--ably represented by Professor Angela Campbell and her team at Georgetown Law Center--filed a brief and a reply brief in the most recent round of this effort.
