President Kagame attends enthronement of
Archbishop Rwaje ? Kigali, January 23, 2011

From the website of President Paul Kagame of Rwanda

President Kagame today attended the enthronement
of Archbishop Onesphore Rwaje of the Anglican
Church as the new Archbishop of the Gasabo
Diocese, taking over from Archbishop Emmanuel
Kolini who is going for retirement. In his speech
at the function that was held at the Kigali
Independent University (ULK), President Kagame
congratulated Archbishop Onesphore Rwaje for
being chosen to lead Gasabo Diocese and said that
this shows the confidence that the Church has in
him after ably heading Byumba Diocese.

President Kagame commended Archbishop Kolini for
what he has achieved during his tenure as head of
the Gasabo Diocese and said that although he was
retiring, this did not mean that he was going out
of the system completely because the nation and
the Church still need him. About the contribution
of Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini, President Kagame
said: ?Archbishop Kolini played a big role in
fostering unity and reconciliation, conflict
resolution, bringing about inter-religious
cooperation and promoting the wellbeing of Rwandans among other things.?

President Kagame said that Archbishop Rwaje,
would fit in Archbishop Kolini?s shoes quite well
because the two have similar understanding and
objectives for the people of Rwanda. ?In spite of
our different capacities, we should work towards
the same objectives as Christians, Rwandans,
Africans and as global citizens. God wants us to
live well in this world and if we work towards
make the lives of our people better, we will be
fulfilling God?s wish,? President Kagame said.

President Kagame reiterated the need for
religious leaders to complement the work of
Government and said he appreciates what the
Anglican Church is doing. President Kagame said
that if this country is to achieve its
objectives, people have to have a good
understanding of issues. President Kgame pledged
Government support to the Anglican Church and the
new Archbishop of Gasabo Diocese.

Opening of new cathedral for Burundi

By communications staff of the Province of Burundi

On 19th December 2010 Bujumbura diocese?s new
Cathedral Church of Holy Trinity was officially
inaugurated in the presence of His Excellence
Peter Nkurunziza, President of Burundi, and other
dignitaries. The service was attended by the
Archbishop and Bishops of the Province of the
Anglican Church of Burundi as well as Bishops from Rwanda and Kenya.

The Anglican Archbishop of Tanzania, the Most
Rev. Valentine Mokiwa, who preached, reminded the
congregation that the building should be a place
of refuge, blessing, and transformation for those
who gather there. The Bishop of Bujumbura, the
Rt. Rev. Pie Ntukamazina, thanked all those who
had been involved in the planning, building, and
financing of the Cathedral over the 10 year period of construction.

Urgent opportunities in Tanzania

From CMS Australia

Are you interested in supporting missionaries in
their work? Are you a trained primary or
secondary teacher ? or do you know someone who
is? Do you have experience in the hospitality
industry or as a barista ? or do you know someone who does?

Do we have a job for you!

Two of our missionary families in Tanzania

urgently need home-schooling support. There are
opportunities for other ministry in English.
These are great situations with wonderful people.
Each family has a home-schooling syllabus that
can be followed. Helpers are needed from January
2011 for up to 12 months (or even two years if you are able).

Amy Vink is involved with a Mothers' Union

project assisting women and children in need
through church-based preschools. It is called the Rehema (Mercy) Project.

To raise funds for this they are going to run a
coffee shop aimed at foreigners. They have the
coffee machine and would love some short-termers
(been a McDonald's employee?!) who could come for
three, six or 12 months to run the cafe, but more
importantly to train locals in hospitality skills
and thus equip them to run this cafe independently.

Episcopal Church launches video ministry project

Identifying 'characteristics of healthy churches'
By Episcopal News Service staff, January 26, 2011

Christ Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
doesn't rely only on its beautiful buildings or
historical status to attract members: it offers
innovative ministries that bridge church and community.

"This is a parish that is deeply committed to its
neighborhood on all levels," said the Rev. Bob
Honeychurch, the Episcopal Church's officer for
congregational vitality, in a Jan. 26 press
release from the church's Office of Communication.

Christ Church is the first of five Episcopal
churches to be featured in "Transforming
Churches, Changing the World," a video project
produced by the Office of Communication, the release said.

The first video is available here. A new video
will be released each month through May. The
purpose of the video project is to present
identifying characteristics of healthy churches,
with a focus on ministry and outreach, according to the release.

"In the 'Transforming Churches, Changing the
World' series," Honeychurch said, "we are
intentional about identifying characteristics of
Episcopal congregations across the church which
have demonstrated a hands-on approach to being
more accessible to the wider community. They have
a sense of themselves that is so compelling to
non-church members that it appeals to that ministry."

"This series will be a cornerstone for

congregations of all sizes to learn what impact
they can make in the lives of their community," he added.

Originally, the film crew set out to identify a
pattern; something that could be modeled, but in
the end found that each church was "wildly
different" -- from the way it worshipped to the
congregation's makeup and the way it attracted
new members, said Mike Collins, the church's
director of digital media, in the release.

"This was an opportunity to really spotlight
great work that is being done in the Episcopal
Church today," he said. "'Transforming Churches,
Changing the World' is a series of positive
stories about how these specific churches are
thriving, finding and retaining new members and
making a positive impact in their local contexts."

"It really is about learning about practices of
churches," Collins added, "We are creating a
series of stories that shows we are one church in
over 7,000 places. We are one church with 7,000
stories told in their own ways."

The Christ Church video focuses on "The Bridge" a
program aimed at connecting life and faith
through action and ministry, according to the release.

Also know as "The Nation's Church," Christ

Church, founded in 1695, is the burial site of
seven signers of the Declaration of Independence
and five signers of the U.S. Constitution,
including Benjamin Franklin. It was the first
parish of the Church of England in Pennsylvania
and the birthplace of the Episcopal Church in
America. The first General Convention of the
Episcopal Church was held there and the first
presiding bishop served as its rector.

"We have just as much future as we have past,"
the Rev. Timothy B. Safford, Christ Church's rector, says in the video.
