>This year, Earth Day falls on Good Friday

[March 30, 2011] With Earth Day 2011 on April 22 nearly here, resources are  
available for observing and recognizing this annual event.

"This year Earth Day falls within Holy Week, specifically on Good Friday, a  
profound co-incidence," noted Mike Schut, Episcopal Church Economic and En 
vironmental Affairs Officer. "To fully honor Earth Day, we need to reclaim  the 
theology that knows Earth is 'very good,' is holy. When we fully recogn ize 
that, our actions just may begin to create a more sustainable, compassi onate 
economy and way of life."

He added, "And on Good Friday, the day we mark the crucifixion of Christ, G od 
in the flesh, might we suggest that when Earth is degraded, when species  go 
extinct, that another part of God's body experiences yet another sort o f 
crucifixion -- that another way of seeing and experiencing God is diminis hed?"

Este año, el Día de la Tierra cae en Viernes Santo

[30 de marzo del 2011] Con el Día de la Tierra 2011, el 22 de abril, ya c asi 
aquí, hay recursos disponibles para observar y reconocer este evento  anual.

"Este año, el Día de la Tierra cae dentro de la Semana Santa, concretam ente el 
Viernes Santo, una coincidencia profunda", señaló Mike Schut, O ficial de 
Asuntos Económicos y Ambientales de la Iglesia Episcopal. "Para  cumplir 
plenamente con el Día de la Tierra, tenemos que recuperar la teo logía que sabe 
que la Tierra es "muy buena", es santa. Cuando reconozcamo s eso plenamente, 
nuestras acciones puede que empiecen a crear una econom ía y forma de vida más 
sostenibles y compasivas".

Y añadió: "Y el Viernes Santo, el día que marca la crucifixión de C risto, Dios 
en la carne, ¿podríamos sugerir que cuando la Tierra se deg rada, cuando las 
especies se extinguen, que otra parte del cuerpo de Dios e xperimenta otro tipo 
de crucifixión - - que otra forma de ver y experimen tar a Dios es disminuida?"
