"All of us together make a family, and we would not be complete without him.
It would be a traumatic experience for my younger kids because he is like a
role model to them, and they love spending time with him. He would not be
able to accomplish the dreams he has back in El Salvador." - Susana
Alejandra Ramirez, whose stepson Cristian faces possible deportation.

Church surrounds man slated for deportation

DALLAS (UMNS) - Cristian Ramirez, like many 21-year-olds, works full time
while attending college and volunteers most of his spare time to the youth
ministry at his local United Methodist church. However, unlike most young
people his age, he is living with the fear that at any moment he could be
deported to a violent country his parents fled when he was 12.

UMW seeks to become separate church agency

STAMFORD, Conn. (UMNS) - The division responsible for United Methodist Women
has decided to seek denominational approval for status as a separate agency
of the church. Directors of Women's Division, the organization's
administrative body, unanimously voted during their April 7-11 meeting to
"structurally separate" but remain "missionally connected" with the United
Methodist Board of Global Ministries rather than continue as a division of
   the mission agency.

After war, Ivorian church seeks healing

ABIDJAN, Côte d'Ivoire (UMNS) - Promoting reconciliation and ministering to
a nation emerging from conflict are priorities for The United Methodist
Church in Côte d'Ivoire, now that the battle for the presidency appears
   over.

Iowa churchgoers aid tornado cleanup

MAPLETON, Iowa (UMNS) - Two days after a tornado ripped through the small
town of Mapleton, United Methodists are reaching out to their neighbors.
"There's really been an outpouring of love and support," said the Rev. Karen
Garrison, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Ten minutes into the community high school play, the sirens sounded and
students herded the audience into underground locker rooms. Among them was
   Garrison.

"The kids were just great," she said. The boy who had the lead is a St.
John's member, and his family was among the many people helping with the
cleanup. An elderly woman, also an active St. John's member, was rescued
after being trapped in her home.

No one died in the EF3 tornado, which leveled 60 percent of the town. St.
John's sustained roof damage, but all of the town churches, though not
unscathed, remained standing. Garrison said a disaster-response team was
already on the scene, distributing cleanup buckets.

Agency gives investment-management program a new name

GLENVIEW, Ill. (UMNS) - The United Methodist Board of Pension and Health
Benefits has launched Wespath Investment Management, a new brand name for
its institutional investment services. The investment program, named for
John Wesley, enables annual (regional) conferences, United Methodist
foundations and other United Methodist-affiliated institutions to make
investments aligned with the denomination's Social Principles.
