Shalu Presbyterian Church celebrates 50th anniversary

Shalu Presbyterian Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and the
church decided to hold a series of events throughout the year and publish a
scrapbook to remember this special occasion. Events include a table tennis
tournament, a sports day, a tour of the Holy Land to be determined at a later
date, and more. The church’s 50th anniversary thanksgiving service was held on
April 3, 2011, and former pastors and former members were invited to attend and
join in the celebration. Nearly 300 people attended the service on that day,
which featured a hand chime recital.

The church’s senior pastor, Rev. Chang Tian-tsung, said an important goal he
hopes to achieve through these events is to help current members, especially
youths, know the church’s history through meeting previous pastors and visiting
special places.

Other events, such as sports events, were designed to invite local people to
come and get to know the church and the gospel. Chang also said he hoped
reminiscing past history through a scrapbook or a tour of the Holy Land would
inspire this generation to rise up and share the gospel with others like their
church forebears had done and nudge them into taking part in PCT’s
One-leads-One New Doubling Movement.
