In the morning, their child ren will wake with two very different missions directed toward the same cri tical goal: ending deaths caused by malaria. Malaria kills more than one million people each year. Every 45 seconds a ch ild in Africa dies of this preventable and treatable disease. Yet, malaria can be eliminated with the right tools: prevention, treatment, education an d communication. Join in this inspiring journey of collaboration and ingenuity as ordinary p eople work together to stop this "killer in the dark." Actress Pauley Perre tte, a member of The United Methodist Church, narrates this documentary. This special program chronicles community-based efforts on both sides of th e ocean as everyday people strive to reduce the deadly results of this dise ase. The documentary, "A Killer in the Dark," is presented by the National Counc il of Churches under the auspices of the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission and produced by United Methodist Communications. Wesley M. "Pat" Pattillo, NCC Associate General Secretary, Justice, Advocac y and Communication, represents the NCC on the Interfaith Broadcasting Comm ission, which plans many high-quality network programs similar to this one each year. Shirley Whipple Struchen is the NCC's Coordinator of Electronic Media Programming.
