LeGrand of Sevierville, Tenn. Easter traditions create fond memories NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - Do you have a favorite Easter memory or tradition? (UMNS) - The fourth annual Rock the Chains Battle of the Bands Benefit at Brentwood United Methodist Church raised $8,000 for [16]International Justice Mission, a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery and exploitation. According to IJM, it takes $500 to free a person from slavery, so the April 9 event helped 16 people find freedom. The church's youth group organized the event and secured corporate sponsorships to cover costs. That allowed 100 percent of Rock the Chains' proceeds to go to International Justice Mission, the online newspaper Brentwood Home Page reports. "It's fun to see how God works and moves in different people toward a unified purpose and vision," said the Rev. Travis Garner, the church's director of student ministries. Amy Delong, a lesbian clergywoman in Wisconsin, has been rescheduled for June 21-23 at Peace United Methodist Church in Kaukauna. The presiding officer will be retired Bishop Clay F. Lee of Mississippi. The church counsel will be the Rev. Thomas Lambrecht, senior pastor of Faith Community Church, a United Methodist congregation in Greenville, Wis. Lambrecht is also a board member of Good News, an unofficial United Methodist evangelical caucus. DeLong, a clergy member of the [18]Wisconsin Annual (regional) Conference for 14 years who currently serves as director of an advocacy group, triggered the case in 2009 when she agreed to officiate at the union of a lesbian couple. That same year, she registered with her partner of nearly 16 years under Wisconsin's Domestic Partnership Conference. She reported both actions to the annual conference. The Book of Discipline, the denomination's law book, states that "the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching." Did someone you know pass along this copy to you?
