3124 Edition January 9-15, 2012 Church Ministry News Local PCT church helps parents and children study by introducing “Memorization Reading Method” Reported by Simon Lin Written by Lydia Ma Lin-An Presbyterian Church in Tainan invited renowned educator Liang Wen-lung to speak at a workshop organized by the church on the topic of “Memorization Reading”. Liang had previously hosted more than 500 workshops on the topic. Scheduled for the afternoon of January 8, 2012, the workshop was open to the public so that more people might benefit from it and get to know Lin-An Church as well. Focused on helping the audience improve their memory via associative thinking, the workshop also helped people to discover their personal blind spots when it comes to studying and memorizing. Liang reminded parents and children that emotional and physical health were important factors affecting a person’s memory and should therefore be included as part of effective strategies that must be used whenever attempting to study or memorize anything. Liang underscored that the reason why many people cannot remember something isn’t because they are incapable, but rather, because they don’t like to memorize. As long as a person can find a point of interest and get past this “emotional barrier”, memorization will be easy. An expert in helping people reach their potential, Liang provided an overview of the brain’s anatomy and functions and introduced various kinds of memorization tricks. After learning about these methods, the audience was invited to memorize phone numbers and English words through memory by association. The result was very impressive and the audience was very engaged throughout these exercises. Lin-An Church’s pastor, Rev. Liu Shih-kuang said that this seminar was an example of his church’s outreach and its underlying purpose was to help people to get to know the church. He added that since many parents nowadays don’t know how to teach their children, his church will continue to offer seminars related to parenting to help members of the church as well as members of the community. ******************** Taiwan Church News is published weekly in Taiwan's local languages.
